Property Law Seminar 2017

The speakers will highlight the many current issues and problems faced by developers, purchasers, management bodies, property managers and the COB in the implementation and compliance of the provisions of the Strata Management Act 2013. They will also discuss in-depth what is involved in maintenance and management of buildings and common property, problems and issues arising during developer’s management period and preliminary management period, the Strata Management Tribunal and its jurisdiction and powers.

This seminar will also explain, with practical examples, the recent developments in property transactions arising from changes to taxation, stamp duties and the Solicitors’ Remuneration Order.

As an added feature, the participants will be given an insight to the new changes that will be brought upon by the Land Acquisition (Amendment) Act 2016, and the issues arising that will impact property development in Malaysia.

Speaker Profiles

 

ANDREW WONG

Andrew is a senior member of the Malaysian Bar, and has served in various capacities in State Bars of Pahang and Johor and in the Conveyancing Practice Committee of the Bar Council. He was involved in the drafting of the new Strata management Act 2013 and the new Regulations. Since January 2013, he had conducted several seminars and briefings to both the public and private sectors on the new laws relating to development of buildings or lands intended for subdivision and the management of buildings and common property.

JEREMIAH RAVINDRAN GURUSAMY

Jeremiah has been involved in the corporate sector since 1997 prior to entering active legal practice. Prior to being admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor, he was attached to the legal documentation unit of the corporate banking arm of one of the leading banking groups in Malaysia. He is a founding partner of Arianti Dipendra Jeremiah (ADJ). Jeremiah regularly delivers talks to the Malaysian Bar, KL Bar and to the Corporate Sector on a variety of topics. He is also a guest lecturer to several private colleges and public universities.

PANG KONG LENG

Pang is a partner in Cheah Teh & Su with more than 20 years of experience in civil litigation. His practice areas include corporate, contract and land law. He is the author of the book “Legal Guide to Civil Appeals Malaysia” published by CCH Asia Pte Ltd.

LAI CHEE HOE

Lai is the founding partner of Chee Hoe & Associates. He was awarded with a Fellowship for Arbitrator (FCIArb) and is a Chartered Arbitrator and Certified Adjudicator within the Kuala Lumpur Regional Arbitration Centre (KLRCA) panel. He was also the Chairman of the Kuala Lumpur Bar Young Lawyers Committee. Lai acts for and against JMB/MC or developers and regularly writes and advises on strata-related and strata tribunal matters. He is currently the Chairperson for several strata buildings in Kuala Lumpur and recently won the best managed property for Solaris Dutamas in the mixed development category organised by the Edge.
